In 2002 Arctic Gunworks in conjunction with Dave Manson, of Manson Precision Reamers, developed the Arctic Express line of cartridges. They are based on the .300 Winchester short magnum opened to .338, .375, and .416. As a result we are able to offer the full magnum performance from 20” barreled rifles previously reserved for the 24” belted magnums. In Alaska many sportsmen are using ATV’s as the primary transportation. When hunting in forested or heavy brush country the rifle length becomes an important factor. Not only when the rifle is in the hand, but more so when carrying it on the ATV. Many will say they have no problem with the gun boots and long barrel rifles. This may be true in some areas. We at Arctic Gunworks replace 50-75 stocks yearly as a result or gun boots of all types. The only safe manner for carrying a rifle on an ATV is within the dimension of the machine or as close as possible, and lower than the handlebars, so they can provide protection in a rollover. We prefer the rifle mounted across the aft section on the front rack. Many excellent fork type devices are offered for this. The rifle dimension requirement was in mind when we started developing the “Alaskan Express Rifles”. The models which are ported are 42”with 13 3/4” length of pull. Non-ported are 40 ½”. The rifles you see are all 42” models. Standard 24” barreled belted magnum rifles are from 44-46” long. The initial ballistic work-up on the cartridges fired from the rifles you see pictured from 20” barrels are as follows: .416 Alaskan Express 350 gr.
Kodiak 2451fps SD of 11 .375 Alaskan Express 270 gr.
Hornady 2631 fps SD of 11 .338 Alaskan Express 225 gr.
Nosler 2840 fps SD of 13 As for other chamberings, we will chamber in any commercial cartridge and will consider any “reasonable” wildcat. We will build “your” ideal rifle. We use only the finest materials. We will discuss exchanges, but if you expect sub inch accuracy, we reserve the final decision or responsibility for resulting accuracy is yours. We build on quality actions only! No Savage or Browning A-Bolts for anything and no Remington 700 for dangerous game rifles. We prefer Montana 1999, Ruger 77, Win 70, Commercial Mauser etc. The CZ actions should also be included, but remember the aftermarket stocks are very few for the CZ line. The same holds true for many other European rifles i.e. Sako. As for barrels we use Broughton, Badger, Kreiger and Montana. We don’t recommend purchasing barrels from magazines or mail order houses. We want to speak to the person and order that specific barrel for that one rifle. Doing that may not make any difference , but it has never failed me. My customers are always pleased. No complaints and everything correct the first time is worth the premium. In summary, we would enjoy building a custom rifle for you. The rifle we will build for you is only limited to your imagination and product safety. Since we work with synthetic stocks, commercial wood, or exotic woods a price quote can only be offered when you decide what you prefer. Rifles as shown sell for $3200.00 in wildcat, $ 3000.00 commercial chambering. Wildcats come with dies. .416 Alaska Express Rifle
.375 Alaska Express Rifle
.338 Alaska Express Rifle
